Pioneer PL-25 Turntable Value (Pics)?

Is this Pioneer PL-25 table a good buy (Pics)?

I'm interesting in purchasing a vintage Pioneer PL-25 turntable from Craigslist and wanted to see if I'm getting good buy. I've done some research, seems like a solid entry table. This would be my first turntable and don't know much about tables. Table seems to be in good condition and seller is willing to demo listening quality. He is asking around $130 USD for the table. Any advice/opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

It is a pretty old idler drive turn table.

The tone arm is pretty heavy (heavy end of medium-heavy scale).

Make sure the original ( heavy-ish) headshell comes with the turn table, difficult to replace.

You will need the heavy original headshell to match up with the counter weight.

A new idler/renew/rebuild would be around $50.00 .

Here is a little bit of information on it.

Take a LP with you, test out all the functions.

Make sure all the features are 100% functional.

Best of luck ! :music:

@Balifly - Thanks!

I talked to the seller briefly and he seemed like a audiophile. If everything is working and functional; would you say this turntable would be a good deal for $135? I just want a solid table that works, not looking for anything fancy. Cheers!

Value depends on the scarcity (local condition).

If you are in N.Y or L.A, there should be more and better choices available.

It is certainly solid enough.

Does the seller have other newer models for around the same price? :scratch2:

Try and talk him down a bit if you can.

I live in the midwest where there isn't much competition for the few decent TT for sale. To me it sounds a bit much. I just bought a mint KD5077 Kenwood for far less than that. Demand may be greater in populated ares, but so should supply of decent TT's. I think you could better.

The TT is from the Bay Area, CA. This seems like the only item he has available, and I will try to bargain a bit if I like it in person.

I had one not long ago. Decent, not great. I sold mine, in similar shape for $85.

I picked up the TT earlier; it was in great condition and very clean and completely functional. He lower it to $120 and I also picked up the matching receiver from him as well. Not sure the model #, but analog it a silver face receiver. Looking into some solid speakers now to go with it now.

Thanks for the help!
