Hi all, this is my first thread on AK. I look forward to becoming a part of this community. Let's get down to business. I just purchased a non-functioning PL-4 on eBay for about $50. This is the first TT I'll be attempting to repair...in fact this is my first TT ever. Something about repairing a vintage TT really peaked my interest and who knows, if I don't royally screw it up, I'd love to turn this into a hobby. This PL-4 has the following issues:
-KJ
- The platter sometimes spins counterclockwise when the tonearm is engaged, but not always - I read this might be due to faulty capacitors, but I'm not sure
- Infamous speed issue - I've downloaded the disassembly/repair guide created by @beej as well as found the youtube guide posted by Jim Litz. Huge thanks to them both! I feel like I'm in good hands in terms of fixing this problem
- Missing a cartridge & stylus - This is where I'm most in the dark. Not sure where to begin and what to look for. Would appreciate any recommendations
