Pioneer PL-50 speed problem

Hey, I’m a newbie here. I recently purchased an old PL-50. It works BUT, I have the too fast speed issue. I’ve ordered 2 belts so far. The second one being the .025 thinner one. She’s still playing tooo fast. After looking closer, each of the belts start out fine but within a few seconds ride up high on the capstan. My first thought was, raise the capstan. I’m not sure how I’d raise the capstan. Next I’m wondering if the motor springs or the rubber is deteriorating causing it to sit lower than it should or if I’m simply not getting the correct belt. Can anyone help me out here?

There should be a locking screw on the motor pulley . By loosening the screw , you can raise the pulley higher . But then - the disk must make several revolutions of rotation . And after that you have to check the belt position again .

Thanks Salamander, can I damage anything by pulling too hard to get the pulley/capstan to budge?

First you have to loosen the screw. Then the pulley should be easily removed .

Yeah, both screws are out. It’s not budging at all.

Probably soured . We should try to heat the pulley . For example , using a hot soldering iron . And try to remove while the pulley is hot .

You can remove the motor . And put the pulley in a jar with kerosene ( or gasoline ) . Only the pulley itself . Let it soak .
