Pioneer PL-50Lii Trouble

Hi,

Just bought this turntable from Japan.

The turntable is running perfect on 45rpm, and everything else is great aswell, end of play hall element adjustment is spot on. But the quartz lock at 33 rpm is just about flickering and making this on/off noise from the motor. Hence I would like to try and adjust this, but it turned out to not be that simple.

Found a manual (though for the higher spec Pl-70Lii but they share much of the same, the PCBs are same). Having a bit of trouble understanding what does it mean when they say connect buffer amplifier to pin.. what am I supposed to connect and how? And also with the VR1/2 they dont mention which of these as there are two sets of the same.

I'm also having trouble to raise the tonearm from its lowest position. Or it's way to low as the cartridge hardly can reach the mat.

Anyone experienced this maybe?

Sounds like you would do all the steps in order. 1, 2 &3 would be the VR's on the control board and 4 would be the VR's on the motor board.
The grease may have dried on the shaft preventing raising the arm after loosening the set screws. Try some gentle heat to loosen it up.
 
Thanks. Though the last step. I find it too confusing. Don't know how to connect a buffer amplifier and so on. Also the first step is not viable as I have the 50Lii and this is from the service manual for the 70Lii which doeas share the same pcbs and motor but not the same setup. instead of the adjustable VCC 32V (VR3) there's just a zener diode and one transistor and a handful of other resistors are missing. And my VCC measures 27,5V. Have no clue if that is intentional main voltage from factory or not.

So I adjusted on the motor-pcb so the rotation is correct in both 33 and 45 but still I cant get a perfect lock on 33, just 45. Maybe it is because of the lower VCC? or something else is not up to it's standard here. I have recapped all electrolytics. will probably fit new resistors and variables to be sure. I was hoping somebody had measured their PL-50Lii before me so I would be sure if the main voltage 27,5V is off or not.
