Good Morning analog fans,

My Pioneer was shipped and will be arriving some time today, thats the good news. Now the other news, I was laid off yesterday after 13 years of service. That being said please PM me if anyone is interested in anyting I have. (Pioneer PL-518, etc.)I will be liquidating a lot of my audio to make room and put some money in the bank to stay alive.

Thanks for everything over the years.

John, sorry to hear of the bad news. If you can swing it, I would select your very favorite pieces of gear and let the rest go.

That way you can still have something to enjoy in the meanwhile. I did that years ago, but also ended up selling everything I loved as well. You can always replace it!

Best of luck from another AK member.

Evan

Whats your profession? Maybe someone around here has a brilliant idea for you.

Hi Evan,

I am an auto mechanic, have been for 36 years. I think the company wanted some young blood on the line that's all. I am selling stuff already, two items gone quickly. I have enough to keep me going until my serverance arrives. Then I may stay home and retire as this will be my business.

Thanks,
John.:music:

John,

That really SUCKS! I went through that with my company about 4 years ago and it is the WORST. Even with a severance it's so demeaning to know that companies want cheep, low priced labor AND that people want cheep poorly made crap for the sake of saving a few bucks! Made in CHINA, supported in INDIA. Goooooooooooooooo BEST BUY Stores!

Joey

Just went through it too after 9 years. Got a new gig but it pales in comparison. Sucks when they realize they can pay someone younger and less experienced half of what you make. I've actually had employers who referred to employees as 'bodies'. Hang in there

Thanks Guys,

It is really helps to talk with people who understand what it feels like.

The music keeps me sane! just got 29 lp's in the mail. Frank Sinatra and John Lee Hooker .

Thanks,
John.:music:

You got buss mechanic experience? San Francisco is advertising for buss mechanics. Start at $85K. Sounds good on paper, but a house there will be a minimum of $400K for a fixer.

If yours is paid for, you may be better off going in new direction? Good luck !!

sorry to hear the bad news. I am an auto machinist, and as you know that business has gone downhill the last 20 years. My shop finally shut down last year, so after 30 years I was without a job or retirement/severance. Hit me pretty hard, kid in college, one more next year, another in 3years. But hey, the wife got a part time job for the insurance and after a year I just got in with the subway system. With all your automotive knowledge you should get in with a dealership as a service writer or advisor. Don't let it beat you up, bro. You got a real talent that people need, unlike 95% of the population.
You are probably old enough to remember the Freak Bros- hear is a twist on their old motto
"Times with music and no money are better than times with money and no music"

I think this is not the end with the economy going south and jobs going away from the USA. Thanks,
I will get something going soon, there are plenty of choices.

Thanks for the Reply.

You have a Great Day

Hi, after almost 2 years after that bad day, things are good.

Been selling on That internet site.

I have learned a lot about fixing TT's and Cassette Decks, getting quite good at it now too! Went through about 100 TT's so far.

Thanks,
John.:music::D

John, sorry to hear about your bad luck. As for selling you gear: you're right, you can always get new gear if funds permit. For now, it's more important to pay the bills and get something to eat. Good luck!

Sorry to hear this. Take whatever steps you have to (which it sounds like you are doing), stay positive, and things should work out. You only need ONE job (or business or project or major client), only ENOUGH income to get by... and that isn't all that hard to get. Even in a down economy with higher-than-usual unemployment, there are still people doing business, buying and selling things, needing services. You have at least one (and probably many, if you think about it) saleable skill(s). You'll be fine, and who knows? You may even end up better-off after this.

My wife lost her job a while back (to some nasty office politics by a petty, manipulative, corrupt and vindictive local woman who took advantage of the gap between the expat bosses and the locals to build her power base and squeeze out anyone she didn't like), and was bummed about it. What happened? After a bit, she got a better job, with a better boss, and while the initial pay was a little lower, she's now making more money than she did in the old job, and is MUCH better off and happier. You only need ONE chance. It is out there, waiting for you, and you will find it, or it will find you.

Good Luck!

John, I'm glad to hear that things are working out for you and you are enjoying your new trade. :thmbsp: Maybe you could give us your eBay user name so fellow AKers could keep an eye on your auctions and give you a hand.
