pioneer pl-518 turntable problem

I have a pioneer 518 turntable when I turn up the volume on my 1250 it reverbs bad. I checked wires hooked to stylus and they are all right. I also have it grounded to my receiver. Does any one have any suggestions.

I suspect what you're experiencing is feedback also which happens on my 518 under the same circumstances. Try closing the dustcover when you play- it's more likely to resonate in the raised position.

Under extreme conditions- high volume and high bass- complete removal of the dustcover from the plinth is sometimes necessary. Fortunately it slides off easily.

I've found the feet on the 518 to be in, at best poor shape by this time. This is common in the 518. They collapse and the bottom shell vibrates on the shelf the unit's on. Raise it up with some cut in 1/2 tennis balls (temporarily). then search PL-518 in the phono forum for fixes. you may have to make some new feet.

Because the only suspension this table has, it's imperative that you have some isolation thru the feet. If that isn't your problem, I once had an issue with the molex connector that connects the two RCA output cables to the board that connects to the tonearm. The spring tension inside the molex connector can come loose. They can be bent to apply more pressure. Optimally, it would be best to re-cable, and just solder the new cables to the board (Thats what I did, problem solved).
