Pioneer PL-530 Auto Return not engaging

I have done a ton of searching in the forums and I keep getting the "tonearm doesn't return fully to the cradle" results. My problem is a bit different. The tonearm plays all the way to the end of the album, and then doesn't return at all. The auto play works fine, the tonearm returns all the way to the cradle when I hit stop, but it won't autoreturn at album end. Any ideas? I have looked through the service manual, but it is actually a bit above my paygrade so to speak. Any help would be much appreciated as I get tired of constantly watching to make sure my stylus isn't raking the edge at the end. What's the point in having an auto that isn't auto..amirit!? :nono:

There is a mechanism underneath that serves as a long mallet, for lack of a better term. It engages another mechanism that begins the lift process. At the end of the "mallet" is a nylon screw which can be tightened (lengthened) since it is not currently making contact with the lift mechanism.
