Pioneer pl-530 please help tone arm return

FastLoud

Preservationist
Good day, my pioneer pl-530 tt tone arm does not return to the rest fully after auto stop/ finish play of lp side.

I know there are adjustment screws for some tt's... When i lift the platter mat i see a couple screws inside but am not sure which if any are correct for start/ stop adjustment...
Is there a pdf manual anyone knows of?

Thanks as always and have a groove filled day

too late for that...

WOW! Total success !

I have to say that this is my first ever TT repair... opening up the unit and just going for it. With the help of you guys, this page and the re-posted links and diagrams I was able to do this in under 30 minutes! Took me a few to find the old foam (Orange) in color... then I scraped it off as best as possible w/ an X-acto knife... cut a new 1/4 X 1/4 X 1/4 piece of Black foam from some pipe insulation and glued it in w/ super glue. Had it back together and tested and damn if it didn't sit right back where it should.

AWESOME!

THANKS A TON!

Have had this TT for 9 years and now it is truly happy!

Check pic, you can make out faint Orange foam remnant directly below the metal base where the power cord mounts...

wish I could post larger pictures but I am not sure how to...

Now I am ready for the Marantz 6300 repair job!

Thanks for the support! R

Glad it worked for you!! :thmbsp:

Cool. I also have a 530 I picked up a few months ago & it does the same thing, not fully returning to the rest. I'll work on it some time this week. Knowing that foam will eventually rot, it's surprising that foam was used in the first place. :thmbsp:

I replaced the foam piece in my PL-570 with a piece of hi density carpet foam. I didn't have the problem of short returns to the rest post, but it sure is quieter during that part of the cycle.

There are a lot of things on these vintage TTs that would be different if the people who produced them had intended them to last this long.

Hoping these images will help others...

Just did one this past week. Here are some additional images to aid. I'm also including an image of the self sticking foam I used. Works great.

Hi,I had the same problem with mine. Here's a link to the fix

There is a piece of foam inside that has deteriorated / disintegrated. Take the bottom off and look for remnants of where this foam piece once was . You can then clean it and glue a new piece of foam rubber on and it will return all the way.

I had that same problem with one of my PL-A45D's and the same trick worked! Thank you very much! Saved me from pulling the rest of my hair out of this bald head!

Never would've found it if it wasn't for those pics. I recently posted a problem with my tonearm on my sister TT. If anyone has an answer I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you to all of the good people who share this wonderful information!
Managed to apply the fix to a PL-350 owned by a retired 75 year old Navy seaman. - Made him a very happy man and well deserved too. :)

Can someone explain how to get to the part that needs the foam replaced on a PL-560? I can't figure out how to disassemble.
