Pioneer PL-530 problem, please help thanks!

Recently received a PL-530 through eBay. Cosmetically it's in good condition and it appears to be working well besides one major hiccup, the platter will not spin.

Everything else works in terms of the automatic mechanics, including the spindle spinning when the platter is off of it. It seems like the motor isn't powerful enough to handle the weight of the platter. Although, platter free, the spindle spins but the rotation is not smooth, the spin is more like a wave speeding up and slowing down instead of a consistent rotation, perhaps more proof that the motor is weak.

Before I bring it to a shop, was wondering if there might be a somewhat easy fix, maybe check for a loose connection or grease up a specific part.

Any thoughts on the matter would be much appreciated, thanks!

It sounds like a more serious problem, but you could try spraying some of this on the speed potentiometers and see if it helps.

Interesting.

I'm speaking with the seller of the unit right now. They are suggesting it might be an issue with the micro momentary switch and all it needs is a new one of those. Any thoughts on that hypothesis?

In all likelihood, it does sound like an electronic part failure. Beyond that, I can't advise any further.

Who knows how available replacement parts are? I'd just send it back for a refund.

Try cleaning the microswitch with DeOxit or replacing it with similar. :smoke:

( Might as well clean and exercise all the switches while you have the turn table opened.)
