Pioneer PL 560 tt issue: speed all over the place

I recently acquired a Pioneer PL-560 automatic turntable from 1978 and ran into a weird problem. The platter speed is all over the place! Speed is not constant and when I adjust the pitch, it is stopping, turning backwards and going forward again at almost double speed. I did a deoxit treatment on the controls a few times, but no difference there.

When pulling out the pitch knob, the light of the meter turns on but the meter goes into minus all the way. When pressing in the knob, the pitch light goes on a bit and the strobe is off and not adjustable.

(The TT has been stored in moist conditions judging from the plinth that has become thicker in the front. Internals look good and mechanics work)



Thoughts anyone? Where do I start fixing this? Pitch circuit? Motor?

I'm not great in soldering, but if this is the cause I can have it repaired ;-)
 
I found the solution meanwhile. It turned out that the bearing ball underneath tne main platter axle was replaced with a bigger one. So I replaced this one with one I had spare from a PL-514 and it runs great suddenly. Speed is exact and aven the meter works!

only issue left is the strobe light which lights like a candlelight but strobe function works.
