Pioneer PL-560 Will Not Stay On

Hello all,

I have a pioneer pl-560 (1970s silver version), and the platter will not stay spinning once I hit the start button. Unless I hold the start button down, the strobe turns off and the platter stops spinning.

However, if I press the repeat button, the power will stay on.

Is this likely a bad switch? Would anyone know of the part number or a currently available replacement?

Maybe, some electronic cleaning fluid will cause no harm. Just try.

I agree, might as well spray the switches with some Deoxit. Take the bottem off the TT so you can get in there and soak them good.

Appreciate you both. Probably a dumb question, but where should I spray on the switch specifically? Where the wires connect to it, or do I need to find a hole to spray inside?

Not familiar with the table. Wondering what kind of switches they are, mechanical or electronic touch switches. If touch switches I'd look at the schematic to see the electronics that are associated with them. A mechanical switch might just be the switch, failure to latch, etc.

The instructions say to push the START button "slowly" until the light comes on and the platter rotates. Does it do this or does it stop spinning after holding and releasing the button?

Looking at the schematic, switch S1 (Start) starts the motor spinning but then after it begins, switch S4 closes and keeps the platter spinning. I don't have a diagram of where S3 is located (somwhere by the motor) but it looks like it is either bad or needs mechanical adjustment to close once the motor starts spinning. There is probably a cam that presses the switch lever when rotating. See if you can find it.

Thank you Dankik. When I press and hold the start button, the platter will spin, but once released (no matter how long it has been pressed) it will stop.

I believe switch 3 & 4 are located near the timing motor based on the diagram from the SM. Am I reading that wrong? I’ll open up the table in a few days to see if I can locate.

See those micro switches? They go bad. Test them and see. Digikey sells them, they are called snap switches. Take pictures so you know where the wires go.
