Pioneer PL-570

I know about the PL-570 that was built in the 70's but how many times did Pioneer use this number?

I found a PL-570 but it's the silver one. It's still a quartz locked direct drive turntable but has a straight tonearm. Is this one worth owning? It seems to weigh more than the Technics SL-QD33 that I had so it don't think it could be that bad of a TT.

It's at a thrift store for $20. It needs a cartridge and because of that I could probably get it for 5 or 10 bucks.

PL-570 was used three times, the most of any model number. The first was the woodgrained, s-arm TOTL model from 1977.

The second was the one you're asking about. It's rare because, at least according to the AK Pioneer database, it was only sold in Japan. Being from 1980 it's the first generation of straight arms and still a very good model, probably similar the the PL-5 and 7 sold here in the US. I would make sure it runs on 110V. If so, grab it. $20 is a bargain. Less than that highway robbery.

Just FYI, the third PL-570 was a black, plastic, belt drive model from later in the 80s. Not complete junk, but easily the least of the three models.

I went back and looked at it and it's PL-S70 not a 570. I can get it for $10 on half price Saturday.

So anyways, how good are the PL-S70's. POS's?

Two years newer and essentially the same. With the exception of the odd exotic model, quartz lock, auto models were always at the top of the respective line. Yes, definitely worth $10.
