Pioneer PL - 707

Hey all. I have a Pioneer PL - 707 that I recently hooked up once again. It's been about 4 years or so since the last time I used it. Is there any way to lubricate the motor? And if so, what kind of lubricant should be used?

Thanks in advance.

The PL-707 is a Direct Drive TT.

Direct Drive motors are not supposed to be lubricated.

What seems to be the problem with yours?

Your 707 has a sealed motor, if it's running slowly or erratically it's probably in the electronics. If it settles down to correct speed after 30 minutes or so it may need a re-cap. Have you tried cueing up the tonearm over the platter and letting it run that long?

Oh, and welcome to AK!

It was running slightly erratic when I first started it for about a minute. The quartz locked led blinked a few times and I could hear the speed change slightly as I was playing an album. I then put it on 45 speed for about 15 seconds, and then I put it back on to 33 speed and everything seemed to be fine. I played about 5 albums on both sides and it didn't do it again. It has been 4-5 years - at least - since I used it.

Thanks Tarl. Could be just that. I thought it might be sealed, but wasn't sure and decided to ask to see if there was any maintenance that I could perform on it.

That was my next question. The Start/Stop button and the tone arm Up/Down button switches don't work, unless I take them apart and press down on the actual button-switch. I can get them to respond, but not every time I depress them. Is it a good idea to use deoxit or fadelube on these switches?
