Hey all!
Thought I would post a question on something that is puzzling me. I have been working on honing in my PL-71, which I've had for a few months and absolutely love. This thing is an absolute joy to listen to, and I actually look forward every evening to my "record time" with it.
Right now I have it set up with just an AT95E cart into an Audionics of Oregon BT-2 preamp. No complaints!
I recently re-capped the entire TT with fresh nichicon electrolytics, and that was what really improved the speed stability overall.
I noticed the neon strobo started to become intermittent lately, and I know this is not uncommon. But what really seems to baffle me, is that it is dependent on the time of day. And by that I mean, it springs to life and works wonderfully as long as there is sunlight in the room. A soon as I close the blinds or it becomes evening it dies out. If I cover it with my hand it dies out, and if I pull it away and let sunlight hit on it, it instantly lights up brightly and strong. I'm sure there is some kind of physics magic going on here, and I will end up doing something to replace is (With another neon, if I can find something I like!) but I thought I would share and see if any others have had issues like this with their old neon strobes.

Also, one more thing: Does anyone know what the adjustment coil/thing that looks like an IF can on the circular board on the motor, is for? It is not one of the speed trimmers, I'm guessing some kind of bias for the transistors?
