Pioneer PL-8 Headshell

Hello Folks,

I've got a nice PL-8 that runs well (with a little help from my AK friends :thmbsp:). Indeed, it is such a nice TT, that I would like to get a 2nd headshell for it. The problem is that this model TT uses what seems to me an unusual headshell.

It sort of looks like an ADC type, but this headshell has pins in the headshell that plug into the straight tonearm.

I'm not 100% certain, but I think this headshell is shared with the PL-9 and the PL-L800 TT and is Pioneer part PXA-867.

Does anyone know of other headshells that would work with this TT?

It was proprietary--not used by any other manufacturer. Tracking them down is difficult. It's unfortunate because of all the straight arms, at least in the beginning, the Pioneers were arguably some of the best.
 
This is why I will only own an S shaped arm. I would like to own other types but for swapping carts I like being able to just unscrew it and set the force and be done with it.
 
Well, I got that PL-8 for $8. :yes:
It was in very good shape and just needed a part or two which were very inexpensive -- as in free due to the generosity of our fellow AKers.

It plays very nicely, is well built, and was easy for me to service (i.e., lube, DeOxit, etc.). In fact it's so nice, we want a 2nd headshell so it's easier to swap cartridges.

Rene, you dog. Excellent price on that. I've several spares but only two that were near that price. Glad that PL-8 is still spinning.
 
Yeah, the thrift store around here basically has two prices for TTs: no cartridge $10 and with cartridge $25 (though the one AR I saw was the exception at $35). I got this PL-8 reduced to $8 because the lady at the checkout noticed someone had engraved an ID number on the unit. I didn't ask, she just saw the engraving and told me it should be discounted.

That PL-8 is a very nice TT -- that's why I'm looking for another headshell. So far it's one of my best thrift store finds.
