Pioneer PL-A45D - Best Cart Replacement

I would be interested to see how it would sound with a quality replacement stylus for your own M91E Cart !!?? I am sure someone will be along to advise you , very shortly!!
(I didnt realise that Shure cart had the sort of metal clip that the M75-6S cart does too?)

Isoul: That is indeed an M91E (not ED) with a genuine N91E stylus. Had one myself 45 years ago. Have you listened to it yet? There's no need to replace it unless you don't like the sound and/or the diamond is worn, and even then, there are decent but affordable generic styli available to replace yours.

Hi,

Thanks. It actually sounds great. I am just worried it may harm my records. Is there anyway to really tell the shape of the stylus?

Thank you for your reply.

Without a microscope with specialized lighting (check your local audio emporiums-- someone might have such a thing), you have to rely on listening tests. I use a record with very strong vocal sibilants. Female vocalists are good at producing these (I use an LP by an '80s band called The Bangles), but of course there are dedicated test records made for this purpose as well. If you first make sure the diamond is perfectly clean (very important) and you track the M91E at 1.5g and hear any "S" sound that comes out sounding like "SH" or worse, I'd replace the stylus. A stylus that tracks high-energy high-frequency sounds well is very likely to be safe to use.

Hi,

Looking to replace what I believe is the original Shure M91E Cart.

Price range. $100-250

Would appreciate explanation on recommendations.

Should I get new cart or get stylus replaced, if possible.

Would Ortofon Blue be a possibility?

Thank you in advance

The Shure M91E was an excellent sounding cartridge to those that enjoyed the Shure house sound.

Should the OP decides to re use that cartridge, the most cost effective replacement and up grade stylus should be the HE- hyper elliptical. :)
