Pioneer PL-L800 Counterweight

So I have a Pioneer Pl-L800 turntable. It is missing the counterweight. Other than looking for a possible parts turntable that has one, is there a substitute? Will another Pioneer or generic counterweight work? And what is that rectangular piece around the outside of the weight for anyways? Thank you.
