Pioneer PL-L800 sounds like record is warped

I just bought a Pioneer PL-L800. Everything works great when start button is pressed except it starts sounding like the record is warped. It came with the original cartridge and stylus PC-4MC. I tried another cartridge and stylus Audio Tecnica and it started to play better, then after a couple songs sounds like the record is warped. I also tried another album and another rubber platter cover, still the same.

Is there any advice anyone can offer to help fix this problem. I read quite a few AK threads. The turntable is clean and everything works great except the music sounds like the record is warped. I don't want to buy a new stylus until I can find out if there is another problem. Any helpful suggestions would be great.

Thanks

Describe what you mean by it sounds like it's warped. Do you mean the pitch varies in a 'wow' sort of way? Does it happen with regularity? Can you pin it down to the revolution of the platter, i.e. it does it in the same spot, once per revolution?

That looks like a nice linear tracking turntable.

Time to lubricate the spindle.
I just did that to my 30 year old JVC turntable. the grease turned very dark and gunky and contaminated with dust too.

Thanks Dusty Old Pile,
It sound like its warped almost in the same spot throughout the album, almost like its on a wiggly table and someone is wiggling the table back and forth.

Also thanks to jasonsong86 for the excellent suggestion but I don't think the spindle takes oil unless you or someone else could explain how.

of course the spindle takes oil.
what made you think it does not?
you need to take it apart and pull out the spindle from the bearing. clean and relube with sewing machine oil.

Thanks jasonsong86,
I will take it apart now and and oil it. I'll take some pictures and let you know how it goes.

jasonsong86 that page is missing out of the PL-L800 SM. Do you have that page. Here are the pictures I have the motor out. If you don't have the SM page could you walk me through the motor dis-assembly so I don't mess anything up.
Thanks

No need to disassemble.
Just pull the spindle out wipe off the old grease on the shaft and take some q-tips to soak up the old oil in the bearing the add new oil about 3-5 drops.
the slowly put the shaft back in the bearing without pressing down. It make take some time because it will be a very air tight fit. just let gravity do its job.
sometimes there is a clip or something keeping the shaft from being completely removed from the bearing.
what I would do is use a long tip syringe and drop some oil onto the shaft through the gap.

Thanks jasonsong86,
Taking the shaft holder off and cleaning and re-lubing fixed the problem. The shaft holder was not even on tight, and the lube that was in there had come out. Put it all back together, and everything worked great. Thanks again Jasonsong86 for the help I really appreciate it.

glad I helped.

Does my PL-L1000 have the same setup? What kind of bearing is in there?
Thank you

BillWojo

The PL-L1000 has a core type brushless Hall commutated spindle motor but the hanging bearing is similar if not identical, the motor in the PL-L1000A is a planar brushless Hall commutated motor just like this one, with an identical hanging bearing afaik.
