Pioneer PL-L800 tonearm problem

First off, I searched around the 'net and couldn't find a clear answer for the issue. As the record plays the arm will hang up and I have to reach over and gently tap it or just touch it to get it to move and play through. I usually have to do 2 or 3 times across a 12 inch LP.
I don't know if this is a mechanical or electronic problem. Anyone here had the same happen to them and what did you do fix it?
Just acquired the TT in an estate cleanup so don't know the history on it.

The tonearm track probably just needs a bit of cleaning and/or lubricating. I think it would probably like something like dry Teflon.
 
I have one of these which had a similar problem that works perfectly now and sounds great. The solution was to download the service manual from Vinyl Engine, take it apart using the instructions in the manual, clean everything with alcohol and rotate the traveler bar slightly to put some fresh teflon surface under the tone arm carriage V blocks. The manual emphasizes that NO lubrication of any kind should be used on the traveler bar, it is teflon coated and designed to run dry.
When it is working properly it has truly excellent sound quality.
