I have been working on a pioneer Pl l800 that I recently purchased. I had to re-solder some wires to the circuit board on the arm. When I push the button to move the arm to the record it moves but as soon as I let go it goes back to the rest position. Any ideas? Also the table spins sporadically.

PL-L800 Turntable

This turntable is my favorite. You need to look at why the turntable is not spinning up to a steady and correct RPM. This turntable is run by and controlled by an IC (Full Auto Control Integrated Circuit) and the motor is controlled by a motor drive IC. What is happening is that the turntable is not coming up to speed and "locking" at speed and the tonearm is returned to rest by the controlling circuitry . You will have to solve the turntable speed first before you go any farther. Each IC connects to the system with wiring headers (connectors). Check that each connector is securely connected. That turntable also has a specific process to take apart to prevent damage so if you want to work with this one I recommend getting a service manual from Rick of Stereomanuals.com The turntable motor is only available from a parts unit. They show up once in a while. Also clean out the dust bunnies because they can interfere with the tonearm positioning sensors. Gook Luck
