Pioneer PL12D Needle.. Help!

Hi Guys, so just today, I have a new set up.

My Pioneer PL12D Turntable
Pioneer SX 434 Amp
Mordaunt Pageant Series 2 speakers.

Everything sounds great...warm and lovely and nice.

I go out, come back and the needle has snapped off. So, one of my brothers kids has touched it, I'm not best pleased.

Please may I ask what i need to buy to replace it/options.
I believe it had a shure adaptor on it with a needle!
But, I've never done anything like this before so I'm really unsure what I need to buy.

Hello and welcome to AudioKarma!

Sorry to hear about the loss of your turntable stylus. In order to choose a replacement stylus that is correct, we first need to know what make and model of cartridge is mounted on the turntable now. If you could gently remove the headshell from the tonearm and check too see if you can find a manufacturer/model name either on the front or bottom of the cartridge, i.e. "Shure M91" or "Audio Technica AT95E". If for some reason it doesn't appear to be present, just post a picture. There are many knowledgeable members on this forum who can identify a cartridge just by looking at it.

Please tell me there is some good news out of all this, like, I can replace it with something even better :)

For the last month I braved the awful sound of a stand-alone just to listen to vinyl, I'm no musical snob, but, it was so beautiful to have this set-up up and running (only today)

I'm absolutely gutted.
 
Some good news: There are a variety of replacement options for this particular cartridge available. The actual part number you are going to be looking for is for any of the N75-series styli; a google search will provide you with a plethora of options. The extra letter on the end indicate if it is Eliptical, HyperEliptical, etc. They will all fit they cartridge body though. I don't know if Shure itself still manufactures them, but there are many aftermarket companies that do, JICO probably being your best bet. JICO manufactures high quality aftermarket styli, and their SAS-tipped models are top of the line replacements for virtually every manufacturer. Very expensive, but virtually everyone I heard on this forum who has one says it's worth it.:thmbsp:

This option is a direct replacement for the M75EJ.

This is the Hyper-Elliptical option, which would be an upgrade.

And the aforementioned SAS-option, the top upgrade.

They are available from other websites as well, lpgear was just the easiest to find.

There are some very inexpensive options out there as well, but these mostly use conical-tip styli, and offer poorer sound reproduction. I would avoid these; they are low-priced but by no means a bargain.

Look at the bright side. If you don't know exactly how much wear was on your used stylus, either by when it was replaced or by looking at it through a stylus microscope, it is best to get a new one anyway.

On another bright side, I'm listening to the radio as the amp is a pioneer SX434 with tuner, it sounds lovely just going through stations.

I Rang the UK shop earlier, but no answer, Its probably because its the weekend.
I will try again Tuesday (as its bank holiday here on Monday) and I will update this thread too.

Your not done yet!

I am pleased you got your TT operating again, but you are not done yet!

To prevent this from happening again, you must teach the "naughty" kids the proper way to use a TT! :D

If this fails, put your system in a lockable cabinet, with you having the only key (and your wife\girlfriend, whatever applies here). :scratch2:
