Pioneer PLA-45D. 1 or 2 second loud buzz through speakers.

My PLA-45D has developed a loud buzz through the speakers that will last 1 or 2 seconds. Cartridge is a Shure 91ED. Very old cartridge, new stylus. Worked fine up until last week. Only thing I have done over the years is lube and belts. I have checked my ground circuits. Tried it through a different preamp. The buzz when it occurs, only lasts a second. It is bad enough that I am worried about damage to my speakers or equipment. It kills all audio when it occurs and almost sounds like a short circuit or discharge of some sort. What should I check from here? Thanks in advance. Galen.

If I'm not mistaken, that uses a second motor to move the tonearm. That can be the noise source or at least it was in a couple of PL-A35s I've worked on. The noise wasn't as bad as you seem to have though.
