Pioneer Racks

Hi guys,

I'm currently talking to a small company that might be able to make me a replica of the original Pioneer racks JA-R1A or JA-R2S.
The problem is that it will be much cheaper if it is made in a bigger quantity. Do you think that there could be a potential interest in buying a replica racks?

Cheers,

All I can tell you is, this has already been tried a few times and has never taken off like someone thought it would. The main problem is, that right now the cost associated with making a replica, is more than what you can buy an original for, in most instances. I actually had a couple made myself out of aluminum extrusions and plywood, instead of the steel rails and particle board Pioneer used. They are just as strong (probably stronger), and less that half the weight, but very expensive to make. When the originals start selling for over $1000, then maybe you might be able to renew this idea. Just my $.02

I didn't know that the original ones were made from steel. In fact I was offerred that as an easier option because it seems that the steel is easier to weld, etc. I must admit I have never seen an original one.
Regarding the price, well, most probably you are right.

Very easy and low cost for a home make one. If you take care it will look almost original. Material:
Some 1" square tubing on which you drill/tap a bunch of mounting holes, 2 small triangle flat metal sheets, 4 caster wheels, & 2 small particle boards.

I know that ebay prices are somewhat inflated...but I recall an original selling for a little over $600 recently...seems like a replica with these simple materials would cost about $80 to make...I would probably pay $150 for one if the details were right...and this is coming from someone without any pioneer rackmount gear...
