Pioneer RT-1020l right channel down on tape but works on source

Hello I have just picked up a Pioneer RT-1020l reel to reel and had it all connected properly, cleaned heads, new belts, demagnetized, it played a 10” tape for about 20 min just fine then the right channel went all fuzzy and dropped out sound, left channel is playing sound fine. Power off for 30 seconds power up and with nothing playing it has this screeching fuzzy sound coming from the right channel. Press play and you can hear a low volume of music and fuzzy intermittent screech sound. Switch over to source and both right and left channels are fine. Should I be playing and tweaking Vr402 Vr401 or some of the other Vr’s ? Or could this be a cap, resistor issue? Thanks.

Could be a lot of things.. If it makes weird sounds even when there is no tape rolling, it won't be bad head alignement. My first suspect would be a transistor in the op-amp's right channel. Elco's in that section are suspect two of course, and you might want to check the input voltige. Pushing around the PCB a bit might give a 'blink' and that would indicate a poor soldering joint.

Ok think I have narrowed it down to the VR 202 FR PB EQ adjuster. As soon as I got on it bam static and such. I cleaned it turned it many times back n forth and for about 30 min it worked fine. But it’s back to itself with static again so it’s off to the shop for a tune up, thanks for your input!! Appreciate it.
 
It may also just need the switches cleaned with an appropriate cleaner, which is part of servicing a deck that has set for years.
