Hey guys... I'm not a complete noob with R2R or repairs, but I am still learning a LOT!
I have a Pioneer RT-901 that I use as my main and I recently acquired an RT-909. I thought I would replace the 901 with the 909, but it needed some love first. I figured it would be good while in it cleaning to check the rest out, new belt, new pinch rollers, etc...
I opened up the capstan motor and it looked like a grenade went off in there. Fragments of pads and solder all over the place. Also, the motor leads themselves were broken off. Since this was the case, I decided to rebuild the motor. (This is a first for me)
I attached some shots of the cleaning, break down, rebuild, and painting. The case was rusty and scratched, so I decided to sand it in spots and reshoot it (masked off the original labels though).
There are some spots on the front I can't seem to get to come clean. Tried windex, soap and water, and acetone, but nothing worked. It would "look" clean and still dry with the spots on the aluminum. If anyone has some ideas on how to get that off, that would be good too.
LASTLY, the reason I came here, was that the capstan motor only triggers when selecting the LEFT play direction. The right doesn't seem to trigger when playing. Does anyone know what this might be or what I would need to check?
