Pioneer SA-1000

Hello,
I picked up a Pioneer SA-1000 a couple of weeks ago and it is now my main amp in my stereo system. It has a very nice sound to it but I am wondering. Am I crazy to have pulled an also nice sounding Kyocera R861 out of the system and replaced it with the SA-1000? What do you all think?

we who have more than one amp or receiver usually rotate them. The audio bug is habitual and easy to diagnose but there is no cure.

I suppose I should have titled this thread "Pioneer SA-1000 vs Kyocera R861". If any of you have experience with these two which do you prefer?

If the 1000 sounds anything like its little brother the SA500A you've got a keeper. Never heard the Kyocera, though.

I have, and if it's in good nick, it's a fine receiver and should blow the Pioneer out of the water. Not that the Pioneer is bad, it's not.

Thanks for the replies guys. They both sound really good but very different. The R-861 is analytical and detailed with it's lauded tone controls. The SA-1000 is also detailed but, to my ears, has a more fullness, separation, and more lower end punch. The phono stage also sounds better on the SA-1000 to me.

Well, here it is a month later and I have decided on both. I use the SA-1000 as a preamp and the R-861 for amplification. It's the best of both pieces and really opened up the Pioneer's sound with the extra watts of the Kyocera.

I love my Pioneer SA-1000 integrated amplifier. It is very versatile (with its Pre-Out and Center Channel) and sounds beautiful. In addition to solid state stereo, I use it as a preamplifier for my Reisong A10 tube amplifier and Alan Eaton 45 tube mono amp. Aloha!
