Pioneer SA-610 NOS... worth $40 and a short drive??

Hello all,

I've been looking for components to build a secondary system in either the bedroom, or perhaps the garage. I came across a new old stock Pioneer SA-610 about an hour ago. According to the seller, it was bought brand new by his father, but never put in to service. It's still in the original manufacturer packaging and box and does power on. I honestly don't know much about the unit beyond the info that I gathered from a quick Google search. But for $40 and a 15 minute drive, it kinda seems like a no brainer. That being said, I don't know what it's been through in the last 45 years. It appears to be in nice shape but it may have seen some moisture throughout it's life, who knows? I know it will, at the very least, need a deep cleaning. So, what do you guys think? Is it worth the time? Any thoughts, opinions, suggestions, etc., are greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
Kyle

I'd say it's worth it, the flouroscans have a special place, look up old threads, there were some ravenous collectors on here. I might have a receiver but I definately have a tape deck, they're not too easy to find. I think the "X" Series is kind of flat compared to normal size equipment, it might be hard find the matching components but well worth it just for looks alone.

I will definitely look up the previous threads. Thank you for the response! While I've got you, I'm likely picking up a pair of Design Acoustics PS-8as tomorrow, as well. I'm very curious to hear them paired with the Pioneer. Thoughts?

Wow, cool looking speakers but I don't know anything about them; it looks like they have a down-firing driver and they look great with that stand. With something like the Pioneer the sound might be really crisp but I'm just guessing, I find the smaller equipment to have a really tight sound, which isn't bad, it's nice to have a tad more bass.

Here's a cool thread with one of the designers, we used to get a few of these guys popping in

They look beefy as heck, let me know what they weigh, I get a 2001 HAL Vibe from them.
