Pioneer SA 6500II recap... a question about some strange caps

I am recapping a 6500II and there are four yellow caps that say 47uF/25V ... and they also say "CELL" on them.

Are these some kind of special capacitor? They look different from the majority of the other caps in this unit.

I'm new to recapping... though not brand new. I have successfully replaced numerous power supply and output caps in my own Sanyo quad units.

So, since these yellow caps in the 6500II seem to be different from the rest of the caps, I'm just wondering if there are special replacement caps I need to get.

Thanks.

What are the cap numbers in the circuit and which circuit? Brand? They could be low leakage caps unless there's also orange-sleeved caps in the unit.

I've seen what I think are those "orange-sleeved caps" you mentioned... four of 'em. They are pretty small. Are they "special caps" too? Do I need to get some special ones if I am replacing them, too?

As for "cap numbers" I don't know what you mean... I haven't looked at the schematic yet... just the boards inside so far.

As for "brands," I think it's a mix....some Elna, nippon com... others.

(The only 4 47uF,25 in the entire unit are low leakage electrolytics)
Thanks for your replies... but do schematics specify "low leakage caps"? I've consulted schematics on some other projects and not seen that "low leakage" caps are identified.

Your help is much appreciated.

Schematics generally will notate it with the initials NL (no leak) after the voltage (same goes for non-polar NP / bi-polar BP caps). However, not all will. You may find that sort of information in the component list as kramden noted.

So, it appears that not all caps are "created equal."

Is there a place where one would WANT a cap to NOT BE "low leakage"?

What would happen if one put a low leakage cap in a place where low leakage is not necessary? OR vice versa?

Sme caps need to withstand high ripple current, others should be low ESR. Oftentimes, low-leakage caps are used in the audio path. There's lots of info on here to read up about them.

Where is "here" to read up about them? Somewhere on AK?

Thanks!

Yes, numerous threads. If you want the real technical, look at the top of the Pioneer page for the "Tuning Fork" series. Post # 11.

Edit: was just thinking about the designation CELL

Capacitor Electrolytic Low Leakage.
