Pioneer SA-7500 Phono oddity....?

Just finished a resto of one of these. I thought it only looked pretty, so I didnt have massively high hopes. But once I heard it, decided to keep this one.

Anyway, today I was trying to get phono running thru an external phono stage, I had a nasty hum when running the output from this stage (at line level) into the Pioneer. I decided to test by plugging the turntable/cart directly into the Phono 1 input on the Pioneer.

Its a Denon DL-103 LOMC cart. The volume is up halfway on the Pioneer, and I had to put loudness on, but it sounds pretty great!

This phono stage must be quite sensitive?

lomc - low output moving coil

made to put out a lower voltage, higher current signal, that is put into a transformer to step up the voltage.

mm phono 2.5mV into 50,000 Ω
mc phono 0.25mV into 100 Ω

phono stages are set as to their gain or sensitivity, to output at a standardized level of about 150 mV (0.150V)
