Pioneer SA-9500 pre out/main in. To connect or not to?

Hello!
Long time lurker here, just got around to getting my hands on a Pioneer SA-9500. Its my first vintage audio kit.
I love the big chunk of metal, however, I feel like the amplifier is lacking some bass, and im unsure if the pre out/main in should be connected via dummy plugs or not?
Ive seen some vintage amplifiers online with the dummy plugs installed, and some with them not connected, thats whats confusing me...
I dont want to test it myself, as im afraid i might let some magic smoke out.

Welcome to the forum. Looks like that one can be used either way. Just make sure the switch is in the correct position. That's quite an amp, should have no problem delivering bass. Check that the low filter isn't on.
 
Since the 9500 does have a switch, no need to use jumpers but if you were to use some jumpers, you won't notice a difference plus you won't let out any smoke. The switch is just a convenient option. It just connects the jacks internally so no need for jumpers.

If it didn't have the switch then you would have to use jumpers. The SA-9500ll does not have a switch so it does need jumpers.

SA-8500 and 8500ll also do not have a switch option and need jumpers.
 
Make sure your "tone" switch is in the "on" position so the bass and treble controls are working.

If all else fails, get a different preamp and just use you 9500 as a straight power amplifier and see if that helps or not.
