I have a Carver C-1 preamp driving a Pioneer SE-205 headphone with an 8 ohm impedance. The volume is not great and the bass distorts if I add any bass other than a flat setting. Anyone know how to find the specs on the Carver headphone amp? Or recommend a headphone? I used to have a pair of Yamaha YH-100 that I loved, but have lost them somewhere years ago.

A preamp typically uses a cheap op-amp set up to drive headphones. Have your tried your cans with any other amp to eliminate the problem being the cans?
 
Yes, they sound great on my Technics A/V receiver; plenty of bass & volume. Guess I need a headphone amp. Now which one?
