Pioneer six 1250 faceplate scratch removal or repair

SteveHammond

Beautifully Restored by the grace of God!
A customer has brought me an sx-1250 to repair and it has two scratches in the faceplate you can feel with your nail. Is there a tried and true method of repair that can be performed by me? I’ve never repaired a faceplate scratch before so any info is greatly appreciated.

thanks,

steve

Good luck with it, but most of these are anodized metal and any attempts to polish it out will usually discolor the metal, making things worse. Even if you did the entire plate to avoid that, it won't be the same. If they're really into getting it fixed, time to go searching for another one.

That said, I did have some fairly deep scratches to deal with on one unit. Put some clear nail polish into a syringe and carefully dropped that into the scratches - once it was dry, a light scratching with a mild emery cloth rolled around a q-tip did a decent job of hiding the repair. You had to look real close to spot it.

In any case, I'd seriously suggest you practice on a donor faceplate first, understanding that they're all created different, so your results may vary.
