Pioneer Speaker help

i'm new to vintage audio and just got a Pioneer sx-950, PL-518 turntable and Im looking for speakers. I'm really just learning and want a pair of vintage Pioneer speakers that can handle the SX-950. Would that be something in the 200 watt range? Suggestions for units? I'm not necessarily tied to Pioneer speakers, but would love to try and have a total Pioneer system if possible.

The HPM-100’s would be a great match for the 950. The newer version HPM-60’s or the harder to find HPM-70’s would also be a good choice.
 
I know you want to keep your system with the same manufacturer for the cool factor.

However, in the 70's, we used to mix and match to get the best offerings from multiple manufacturers to build system synergy. Different companies specialized in different things. No offense meant to lovers of HPM100's, but Pioneer wasn't known to be an all star maker of speakers. Companies who specialized in speakers made better offerings in the same price point.

You may want to consider not limiting yourself based on availability, or lack thereof. Look for any good speaker in your price range. Especially since vintage speakers will come in a variety of conditions after all these years...

Having said that, the recommendations above for an all Pioneer system are sound.

True, but the HPM-100 and HPM-60 (presumably the whole lineup too) were designed by Bart Locanthi of JBL fame, so I wouldn't necessarily lump them in with previous offerings from Pioneer. I will readily admit my bias here though, as I love my HPM-60s very dearly.

I don't disagree the HPM were popular, and sold well. I remember HPM100 powering a lot of residence hall dances!
 
You might like Pioneer CS-63Dx, if keeping with Pioneer and bundled resale is a consern, or if they might sell better togerther. the CS-63DX speakers are not somthing to over look. A nce combination if you can find a pair.
