Pioneer Spec-1 connection options

Hello friends

I have a Pioneer Spec-1, my question is:

Can I connect my preamp directly to the amplifier without passing the speakers through the Spec-1 and it will sound?

I was testing the last weekend connecting the preamp to other amplifier directly like a common preamp of this way and no sound, the preamp was saved by years but used to be connected with a spec-4 normally...

You should be able to. This is how I have mine connected, if you are planning to use extra sets of speakers then you can have a speaker line to go back to the Spec 1 and you can control which speaker sets to play. Speaker A, B or A+B

Hi jojo0416! Then the preamp has a problem, because it doesn't emit any sound connected that way :(
 
Did you connect the line out of the Spec 1 to the line in/amp in of your amp?

Yes post 4 is correct you don't need an amp to check. If there is no sound then there is a problem with the Spec 1.

The above is just an example but the same principle with a different receiver.

I am not familiar with the kenwood, not sure if there is a tape loop on your amp which you can check.

If you connect it into the aux in of the kenwood, then the signal is feeding the Kenwood's preamp, can you not separate the pre and amp on the Kenwood?

This is how you separate the preamp (output, pre-out) and amp (amp in, power in, inputs) in a Pioneer receivers, other models have a switch, unless your Kenwood does not have that option.
Simply remove the jumpers and you have the amp in where you connect from the outputs of the preamp.

ok, I'll check the receiver to see if I can connect it that way, another question, when you connect directly spec-1 to spec-4 you control the volume by spec-1 or in your spec-4?
 
Set the switches like the Spec I in the image below.
Make sure you have an input source like a tuner or CD player. Their all line level and can be connected to any input RCA jack. The main thing is to select the corresponding source using the function selector on the top right corner of the Spec I.
Run the RCA patch cords as described above.
Make sure the amp works.
The Spec 4 gain controls can be set to full CW's.

My main volume control will be the spec 1.
However, you have to set the gain control of the Spec 4 above minimum (0) to get a sound. I have mine set at -18 or -16.
