Pioneer Spec 1 & Spec 2

My Spec 1 needs some cleaning on one of the volume knob internals. Crackles like it has dust in it.

My Spec 2 needs a light replaced.

How do I access these? I know how to get the covers off, but not how to locate the offending components so as to replace/clean them.

Bought them new to run a set of Bose 901s back in the mid 1970's. Still sound great.

There are some threads on the Spec 1 volume pot. Not the easiest to clean.

The Spec 2 has the fuse style lights. It easiest to get to them by taking off the face plate which requires removing the volume control knobs that are secured by hex screws, so you need the proper sized hex key. I think it's either 1.5mm or 2mm. Be careful so you don't strip the screw head. you might want to heat the hex key with a soldering iron if the screws are hard to remove.

Yes, but I used a fine tipped soldering iron instead of a drill to avoid getting chips inside.
Then I cut off the outer melt ring and seal with a small piece of electrical tape.

That said, it's probably better to loosen the screws and pry things open a bit.

I did loosen the screws and tried to get Deoxit inside but I don't know if it helped because here we are a year later and it's just starting to get a little static again.

I also get a little pop when I turn the input selector but I have already recapped and put in new transistors so it's not that.
