Pioneer Spec 2 - Powers up - No Output - HELP

Hello, I am interested in buying a Spec 1, Spec 2 but the Spec 2 does not work. The seller says that the Spec 2 powers up but the relay does not click and there is no output. Is this a well known and repairable issue? Are there any unobtanium parts on the spec 2?

No relay click can mean a few different scenarios and cannot be traced to one problem only on that little information.

Best case: It is sticking relay contacts. (0.1 confidence that's your problem)

Worse case: There is a failure in one or both power amp channels creating a large enough DC offset (read the sticky here) to cause the protection circuit to stay engaged.

You'll need to factor repair costs into whatever you decide is a fair price, IMHO. Depends on how bad you want them and what the seller _thinks_ they're worth. I've walked away from some deals where the seller clearly liked them better than me.

No idea on the hard-to-find parts for a Spec1/2.

Thanks for the response. I am hoping it is nothing serious that would require parts that are no longer available. I would be getting the pair for a good price and the seller says they are in very good cosmetic condition. Another tough decision....
 
Very likely fixable, if that's the only problem. Like dshoaf said, the relay not engaging can't be traced to only one thing. If you buy this will you be getting it professionally serviced or try to fix it yourself?
 
Spec 2

My Spec 2 is in the shop @ this time, blown rt ch this is happening about every 2-3 years, I bought this unit back in the late 70's just have to put up with this problem because of the age but my repair guy is in Buffalo NY, he has not had any problem getting parts. Last unit I saw on ebay went for $400 or $500.

I will take a quick look at it and if I cannot fix it easily it will be going to a pro.
