Pioneer Stereo Tuner Model TX-9900

Hello friends of good old hifi,

actually i am looking for the schematics of Pioneer's tuner model TX-9900 (not the brochure!).
I just bought that model in yahoo auction in japan and i probably will need the schematics for doing some repairs. Does anybody have any idea where to get the schematics or (better) a complete service manual?

The TX-9900 was sold only in japan (145.000 Yen in 1975!). It ist a pure FM-Tuner and has the special japanese frequency range from 74 to 91 MHz. The Model Exclusive F3 might be similar in electrical function. So the schematics of that model might be helpful too!

Howdy and Welcome to the forum, from Central South Texas!

Normally I would direct you to HiFi Engine website to look for any type of schematic's, manuals, etc. for your specific model Pioneer but I just checked first and well currently there is nothing listed for the Pioneer TX-9900 tuner.

With that stated, your just going to have to search the internet, inquire within audio websites, etc. to find what your looking for?

thanks you for the kind hints!
I forgot to mention, that i checked the complete internet and all common sources (hifi engine, audio data base, other forums, etc.) before opening this thread.
The problem is: the TX-9900 is very, very rare outside japan due to its strange frequency range and the fact, that it was sold only on the japanese market.
I suppose i have the only specimen in good old Germany...
So i hope to find a person in japan, who coluld help me find what i am looking for.

Most pioneer tuners used more or less the same parts for the same model years. Thus the design can be figured out. Take/post a few pics of the insides, so one can see the parts they used. Getting around the freq range issue and the 100v supply are issues to figure out a solution

Having the same issue finding a manual/Scat for a Sansui TU-D707. For the most part it is a Japanese TU-919, but has some differences. Posting some clear hirez pictures and we should be able to make some comparisons to other Pioneer tuners.

as soon as the TX-9900 has arrived at my site, i will post some detailed photos. Actually it is still on it´s way from Japan to Germany (should arrive on thursday...)
Meanwhile i have got a service manual (copy of the original manual in japanese language as .pdf) of Pioneer´s Exclusive F3, which seem to be similar in construction.

Till a week ago there was one for sale on ebay CA and USA. Seller was located in south korea. Maybe the listing is still active or search ebay history. And 'shoot' that seller if you can find her or him an email or ebay message?? Ask for scans or a copy or 'source' for this tuner's manuals scematic etc!? Maybe you get lucky?

Hello TX-9100,

thank you for your kind help! I know that ebay sale very well! The south corean seller shot that TX-9900 on a japanese market place because i asked him if he could help me to find one. A service manual or the schematics were not included.
Unfortunately, the price he called was far too high in the end and with a closer look at the front plate you could see some ugly scratches... A no-go for me as a collector!
Meanwhile i registrated on yahoo auctions in japan and i entered the paradise of good old hifi for myself... Japan and Germany have a FTA, so there are no additional taxes!
The TX-9900 i recently found on yahoo auctions is fully working (it was sold as "junk") a its outer condition is quite as good as new! No repairs have to be done.
Still, it would be good to have technical documentation on the device!

And here is a photo of the inside of the TX-9900 (upside view). Unfortunatetly audio karma doesn´t allow extendes file sizes...
In the meantime i could get the service manual for the Pioneer Exclusive F3 (as pdf-file), which is obviously quite similar to the TX-9900. But many details are different...

Im handy, but I dont deserve the hifi tech status. But I have 'opened' my tx-6200, TX-6500 II, tx-7500, ( and even my TX-7800), TX-9100 and TX-9500 . The TX-9900 is def indeed a Pioneer design and build also components use wise. But my tuners do not share the exact circuitry although 7500 and 9500 I got come close, but not in circuitry layout! Atleast you @$Pioneer$ will not have parts incompatability or unobtanium issues! It all looks very (Pioneer) generic to me atleast! And for what it's worth,.. Im 'jelous', great score, great looking tuner!

The different frequency range of japanese FM tuners is not a problem! The solution is a simple and cheap converter, Works well without a remarkable quality loss!

The pic is not detailed enough to identify the markings on the ic’s but from a glossing over it looks to be pre PAxxxx chip design as I see one ic in the detector section that has the hitachi logo. The IF section looks to be all linear phase IF transformers and ha1201 IF amps. I assume the module on the left is a servo tune circuit. Pioneer had a couple of those designs so it might be the same or similar to the others. Front end looks similar to the Kenwood kt- 8300

Thanks for the help so far. There are currently no problems with the TX-9900, it works flawlessly and i am happy with it! Like the SA-9900, it is built as trong as a tank and made for eternity.
If a repair should really be necessary some day, the manual for the Pioneer Exclusive F3 will certainly help! The Exclusive F3 is the most similar tuner model to the TX-9900. The components should not be the problem. Most of them can be found in other, more common models of Pioneer.

Did you ever make any progress on this? Just picked up a TX-9900 to go with my SA-9900. Although I have less than zero interest in radio, I would not mind restoring it just so it lasts. I bought it only for a matching system though. Now if I could just get a SG-9 and CT-1250....
