Pioneer SX-1050. How Would You Rate It? Worth?

OK, I’ve read the rules carefully.

Please help me assess the value by rating this unit in 3 areas:
1) Is it Excellent condition or Very Good condition?
2) 1 to 10 where 10 is Excellent.
3) Current market value.

There is a small chip in the silver just above the ”eer” in Pioneer. There appears to be some rust or rust-like stains on the metal chassis under the cover and on the back side of the cover grille. See images of receipts for recent work by two noteworthy shops.

Thank you for your help. I appreciate it!

Cheers from San Diego, California USA.

3) Current market value...

So AK is not an appraisal site nor is there anyone here who is an appraiser or authority on current pricing.

"Market" value is subjective and there are many variables, so my first suggestion is clarify what Market you are referring to, local to you? national and or international online Markets

What one would sell for in San Diego could be totally different then in say Des Moines IA or Jacksonville, FL

Your best bet is to scour completed sales listings on sites such as Ebay, Reverb, Hifishark seeing as vintage Pio's are still quite popular you should be able to find a bunch of examples.

1) Cosmetically, based on the pics Very Good
2) Cosmetically, based on the pics 9

1200-1800 depending on where it is sold. More if you have some bidders that are chasing the win.

Looks like a good looking unit. If it is a 1050 that you are after as your end game then id be happy with that. Saying all that I prefer the sound of the Sansui offerings over the Pioneer and the pioneer over the Marantz, only comparing the larger receivers. I still own at least 2 of each.

Good luck if you pull the trigger. If you don't mind what is the seller asking?

He might be the seller, which he can't mention. He could be asking for "Insurance" purposes which is no violation of AK rules.

I am the owner of this fine piece of machinery. Yes, I cannot mention my plans for this item because that would be a violation of the rules. Thank you all for your replies. I value this website and all the contributors with the experience and knowledge you so freely share. Cheers!

On eBay the SX-1050 goes for $1000-2000+, assuming it's in decent condition and working. The $2000+ examples will either be restored, mint, or in very nice shape with the manual and box. Non-working and poor condition SX-1050s go from $300-700 generally. Yes, some have eBayed as low as $300.

Are you the original owner ?
I see it had no sound. Does it work properly now ?
I’d think long and hard about selling it on eBay and shipping it. The last two items I shipped were destroyed and I have access to boxes and packaging materials. It still didn’t save them .

I won't ship anymore. My friend wanted me to package up a larger receiver for shipping and I told him if it absolutely had to be shipped to take it to a shipper like the UPS Store where they can package and ship it. If something happens to it, UPS is responsible for everything.

I've heard a lot of horror stories about having the UPS Store do the packing as well. The Store is not actually owned by UPS, they're a franchise, if it's not packed to standard UPS is still going to deny the claim.
