Pioneer SX-1050 or Technics SA-800?

I have found both of these in my area and am wondering which is the better sounding unit? They’re both priced similarly although the Pioneer is $100 more. The specs seem very similar when I looked them up so I’m looking for advice from people that have listened to the units and any opinions. Thanks!

I have had both and easily it would be the Pioneer (from quality of build, sound and investment). The Pioneer is a safer bet and MUCH better received in general.

Wanted to add.....reality (as far as I have came to learn concerning “our gear”) is? The original strength of a brand’s marketingSTILL has significant impact on “what’s best”. Is it pertinent to quality and quality of sound as “best”? Only marginally. This truth has some “sleeper” gear seeing huge returns and appreciation (for interest and resources invested) but Pioneer was a Golden Child then and now.
A nice SX-1050 has Pioneer’s top sound and if restored.....money in the bank.

Did you choose? Neither a bad move anyways. (SA-800’s are nice and not ran across that often.)

Pioneer, hands down. Build quality, sound quality and market value. The top 3 in the Pioneer 50 series are impressive receivers. I own a 1250, 980 and 950. That said, I have always liked the upper end of Technics SA series appearance and they are not bad receivers at all. You mention the $100 difference, and that would make up a good bit of the delta between the two, but based on build quality alone, I would fork over the extra C-note.
