Pioneer SX-1250 vs. Sansui G-901DB

klm1269

Mn. Audiophile on a budge
Alright, I just picked up this Sansui in mint condition for $100.00 It is the European version of the G-9000DB. I already have the Pioneer SX-1250 in mint condition. I can only keep one, so can anyone tell me about their experiences with these 2 units in order for me to help make up my mind? I see the Sansui advertising DC power output. Is that superior to the Pioneer? Is one tuner section better than the other one? How about rarity. Is one more collectible than the other? Any info you can give me would help. Thanks

Hi, klm1269! Are you living in Europe ?

Keep the Pioneer and sell me the Sansui for $100. :D

Seriously...Either way - you're a winner. :thmbsp: If you're set on keeping one, pick whichever one sounds best with your speakers.

I'm realing over the fact you found a 'Sui Big G local for a benjamin! Great score!

The Pioneer will pop up for sale all day long. That Sansui won't.
There are 7 SX-1250's on Ebay right now and 0 G-901DB's.

That said, keep the one YOU like best.

Rob

They are both very good sounding units. I think the differences are minimal at most. Both are very well engineered.
Because you have to look at the unit everyday... Looks might be important . Keep the one that looks better to you.

I can only keep one because of finances. I am disabled and could use the money from a sale to offset medical insurance costs etc. I haven't fired up the Sansui yet. It was dusty, and I am in the process of cleaning it up first. I move slowly right now. Robisme, you have a good point about the rarity of the unit. I really like the looks of both units. I did find out that the Sansui has a 5 gang tuner, though I don't know what the Pioneer has. I have a pair of HPM 150's to hook up when I have the Sansui cleaned up. I got the Sansui on Craigslist. Since I am home all the time, I monitor that site very closely for pieces. I have gotten many many good deals on stuff that way. Most of the time I Ebay my extra stuff, but this receiver dilemma is tough. Nice problem to have though I guess.

I have been using a G901db for quite awhile and it simply is the cleanest sounding receiver I have EVER heard. ( and running the 160wpc into 4ohm speakers REALLY helps) If it were me the Pioneer would already be on the "for sale" list, but if you decide to let the Sansui go please contact me. I would love another one for the office.

I can certainly understand your situation being disabled myself. It seems that my medical insurance goes up everytime I turn around. One thing you could do if both sound equally good or you cant decide by looks, although it would be hard to pass up on the champagne Sansui, is decide on their monitary value. Follow a few auctions for each. I didn't check the 1250s, but there are 2 G901s for sale on ebay. There is also the Sansui database which has average ebay prices for Sansui gear. Keep or sell the most valuable one depending on your situation.

Since the original thread was started about 9 months ago, the OP has likely already made up his mind.

Wow! I didn't even look at the date and thought it was a new thread.

I guess some new members looking in the archives is all and pulling these old threads back up.

hello I own a pionner sx-1280 . I all so own sansui g-6700 sansui g-871db. I like very much the sansui and the pioneer units. If I had to pick one I would pick the sansui they sound a little more sweeter and warm than the pioneer but really If u have etheir one u damm sure cant go wrong. there is no receiver on the market that will compete with the sound quality of these too receivers. and I did own a denon avr 5800

still have both

I still have both units. I just can't bring myself to sell either one. I have a nice vintage Pioneer collection in my family room, but the Sansui is in my heated garage where I spend more time. It actually gets more use than the Pioneer. Thanks for all the input.

My suggestion was going to be keep them both. It's not a whole lot of people with not so deep pockets that can say they have both of them fine units.
