Gitter Done!
My 1280- well, I charged myself - free....I think joe's 1250 came out to just over $500. I'm about to redo a 4400 for Vintageplus and I'll make sure he gets a deal- This is a hobby for me, I have a full time job that pays the bills, mortgage, hobby, booze, boat blah blah blah. I don't "need" to charge gobs of money to make sure the hydro is on when I wake up. Nobody around here (Ottawa) unless you count Ben, Duncan, myself and a couple of the smokers over in Gatineau who I wouldn't let clean my shovel recap entire units- it makes no logical or financial sense. Take a 1250, what's it worth in the real world, not the ebay matrix- $500??? I'm going to try and convince a guy to spend $1500 restoring his $500 receiver? These aren't copo camaro's , these are low to mid fi receivers people just want to enjoy, so I do my best to accomodate by making the restoration price fair. I make a little, the owner gets a "serviced" receiver and everyone is happy. Whoever else wants to charge more then go for it, if Glenn charges $750 to redo one then so be it- he's earned the reputation to do so and has done many folks proud around North America. Vintage audio is a hobby to me- I got into the hobby cause I took my 18 to a shop to have it repaired- it wasn't even touched after 7 weeks. I can't deal with that, spending all this money in an attempt to have something repaired and wait for it for months when I could have fixed it myself.
