Wow.... How do people end up with stuff like that???

Better still, how do you "forget" you have four 75 pound Monster receivers in your "closet"???? Not saying anything fishy about the ad, but gee, what kind of closet and funds must one have to forget about something like that?? Not a place to which I am familiar, that is for sure.

The older you get, the more stuff you accumulate, the easier it is to forget.

THREE NIB SX-1980s????!!!!!

This ad has got scam written all over it. He had not 1, not 2 but 3 NIB SX-1980s in a closet that he "forgot about". Anyone with a brain would put something like that on ebay NOT Craigslist- no disrespect intended - where they'd bring the most $$$. And to forget about 3 very costly items (probably like $3500 each in today's money...well I think it speaks for itself.

Ad was still in my system memory, here is the exact text below. Maybe someone quickly flagged it after sending a contact email? :scratch2:

pioneer sx 1980 stereo receivers (old stock in boxes)

I have 4 pioneer sx 1980 stereo receivers never used in original boxes from a store close in the late 70's I had them stored in a closet and forgot about them. I tried to remove one from the box but its too heavy and I cant do it. make offer selling only 3 as I will keep one here for myself.

it was "make offer" You never know...the guy could have been in his later years, and had a houseful of stuff.I'm only 50,and I still find things,I didn't know I had.

On ocassion we get similar CL posts like that here in Dallas.... 'found my Dad's SX-???? in the attic/garage/basement. In great shape and really heavy. Will try to lug it and take photos.....' So what't the hidden agenda in posting these fake ads.... email addresses, phone numbers, ????? I don't get it. Seems like a waste of time unless some folks got a real freaky side that needs to stay under wraps.

Yeah..email addresses, phone numbers, people with a big wad of cash in their pocket meeting a stranger for an incredible "deal"....or maybe someone with nothing better to do than play around. Of course, every now and then, rarely, it's the real deal.

I ran a retail tool sales and hardware store out of my warehouse from 1981 until 1998. When I decided to shut down the tool part, I sold most of it out. In order to make room, and not wanting to give the stuff away for pennies on the dollar, I put what was left in cabinets, then eventually piled other stuff on top.

I have several thousand dollars worth of brand new in the box adjustable wrenches, socket sets, and pneumatic tools that I have basically "forgotten about". I stumble across them from time to time, but soon forget.

Heck, I even have a 3 piece humongous rollaway tool box that stands taller than me, still in the cardboard boxes on the top of the pallet rack.

I don't doubt that there are others who opted to keep pricey things when they closed their business, as opposed to dumping them on the market.

It's easier to happen with small items like hardware... with a big SX-1980, I'd say that thing is much harder to hide. ;) Still, there is indeed the chance that some are out there boxed away, just waiting to be discovered. But the odds are very much in favor of the discoverer going to Google and eBay to see what information is out there... and soon learn they have a Holy Grail item in their hands, to be priced accordingly. :)
