Pioneer SX-1980...Suspicious??

Maybe his Dad was here since 79,but he was not.Anyway,I saw another 1980 on CL...not sure where,NY,Mass,or RI,and the guy wanted $2450,so $1700 would be a decent deal.

Kinda odd it went from 1000 to 1750 without a bid, buyer must have wanted it no fooling around bidding ! Im just saying!
 
He started the bidding at $150 with a reserve over $1000 and a BIN of $1700. If the reserve was hit then the BIN would have gone away.
Not a bad deal if you can lift it (physically and financially).

Woah! Unfortunately, my bank account does not come with a forklift. Now there's a peice that will forever remain just a dream for me, but just look at that beauty!! Breath-taking!
Is that a 5 gallon drum surrounded by four coke cans I see in there? I don't think I would be putting my hands inside that thing even with no power.
 
Just out of curiosity,what is the real draw to the 1980? Is it the prestige of owning the biggest,baddest receiver pioneer ever made? Or is it just knowing that you have so much power at your disposal? I have owned the 1250,and a 1280,settled on a 1080 for a while,and sold it off,to settle for a sansui integrated setup.

You got it, it was the daddy of receivers. No offense to the G33K which sold for $2k and was out of reach for the drooling teens who are now Gen X'ers with disposable income.
 
I bought my 1980 on ebay to have the "biggest & baddest" thinking somehow it would sound better or at least different in my tiny bedroom than whatever I was using before. It arrived DOA, required 2 trips to the shop in the two years I owned it, and was just too big for the space. After I rescued a damaged SX-1280 I found at a local auction, I cut the 1980 loose before it broke down again.

In Orange County Southern California? I'd like to think I'd get lucky for any TOTL gear one day, but I'm not holding my breath. (I do have a Yamaha CR-2020 needing some work, but I paid $180 for it and right now that is market rate. I know it will get better eventually though as I have no plans to part with it for some time. It's my first TOTL peice and it is going into a system).

I think someone should build an Audio Rehab.....that way,when you have to get rid of your gear,you can send it to me!!!!:D

Wouldnt work too many people would be relapsing on 70s gear or substituding low end stuff for a quick fix. :D
