I feel like I should respond to Marc's post.
He had contacted me from frustration with the nickel and dime issues he had with the receiver. Several shop visits did not make it reliable and a pleasure to use.
The shops did what they do. Quick fix repairs. One was a fair attempt at the CCS EW mod in the PS. A mix of components and several repairs made us decide on a modern fix to the PS, and a complete rebuild. Probably the same decision any Member here would of done.
This is an example of how this older equipment needs the TLC required to function reliably.
I haven't been doing a lot of work for people in the last year or so. I've been working on my own equipment and working on increasing my knowledge in, of all things, vintage equipment. Time I didn't have between my full time job and the bench work for others.
Marc lives in the SoCal area and I have access to hand pickup and delivery, so it makes it easier on the both of us. And I hate shipping. Working on his 1980 was a pleasure and a welcomed change for the time I had it here. Plus I got to listen to it for a few weeks. One of the perks a bench tech has. I feel lucky I can work and repair these fine receivers. I couldn't of done it without this forum and the longtime members that have helped me through the years.
