Apologies in advance for a partial re-post of something from the general audio discussion. Hope this is OK.
Anyone have experience with an SX-3500? I'd be interested in hearing opinions on this receiver. I also have an SX-737 that I really enjoy.

OK, so I've been trying to be more selective in the gear I bring home; however, when free items show up on CL and involve a short drive, I feel compelled to take a look and usually bite. In the last week I've made two stops with mixed results:
Stop #2: Pioneer SX-3500 receiver. It works like a champ after cleaning the pots/switches, only the Speaker A switch doesn't want to stay engaged. Surprising that it works at all considering it was stored in a leaky shed in NW Wisconsin for the past five years -- think of all the -20F winter nights and 100F summer days at 100% humidity. It actually sounds great and all the bulbs work!

The same older lady also had two pieces of BPC available: a Sony mini-system and a Montgomery Wards all-in-one system (with equalizer, tuner, dual casette and turntable), both came with cheap speakers. I really didn't want to take them, but then she spoke of her divorce and how she wanted all this 'stuff' gone. I ended up taking everything and gave her $10. Always been a sucker for a sad story.

Anyway, the SX-3500 is probably worth at least $10, even at 20 WPC, and the BPC might be good for the kids' rooms. The kids already broke the needle on my recently acquired PL-A45B; so maybe giving them a cheapo TT will keep them away from mine. Doubtful, but one can hope. I've also found the volume knob on my main receiver turned to 11 several times and certainly didn't put it there myself. Good thing I always check before firing up the system. Anyone else ever been sabotaged by little hands?
