pioneer sx-3900 without wood?

is there any sx-3900 units with metal case?? cant remember me seeing one.

Im not a fan of those wood things I think they make a unit look older.

anyway. fluorocent units really rock!

AINT it strange and bad that sx-3900 is 120 W and the other ones in this serie (sx-3800..65W) sx-3700 40? ) are well off the Beast (sx-3900)

sx-3800 should be at least 80 watt what do you think? aint the sx-3800 a bit too "boyish" ?

The SX-3800 is rated at 60 watts per side and, no, I don't think the 3800 is "boyish" at all. She's got enough gusto to get the job done. As to your original question, I don't believe any of the receivers from this vintage were available without some sort of wood or vinyl treatment as standard as opposed to just a bare metal cabinet. I had an SX-1000TD that came with just the metal cabinet and their was an optional wood cabinet available. But the 1000TD and other Pioneer receivers like it preceded the SX-3x00 series receivers by ten years.

I definitely would concur that the 3800 should have been 80 watts per channel. 60 wpc is the very bottom limit for my Mach Ones, IMHO.

During that time frame, Pioneer also had the SX-D5000s and SX-D7000s. They had the metal case, but some also had walnut side panels. I've got 2 without wood panels (SX-D5000) and one with. My SX-D7000 has the wood panels also.

Pictures of my receivers with wood and without. That didn't sound right (lol)
