Pioneer sx-535 noise in right channel

This receiver has been setting for about 4 months after I deoxited all the pots and is sounded fine. I connected speakers to it yesterday and got static and popping in the right channel. It doesnt matter what function it's in or if I have the volume off. Also, the noise is in the right speaker even when the balance is completely to the left one. Music will still play with the volume up.
I have read many posts similar to my issue and most say it is noisy transistors on the output board. However, none of the posts indicate this specifically solved the issue.
I tapped on the 220uf cap on the output board and the noise changed some. I resoldered the cap and it does nothing when I tap it but I still have the static and popping.
Is there something I can check or measure that may help me localize the problem?

2SC1318 is known to become noisy. You can buy some freeze spray and spray the transistors in the power amp stage, one at a time. The ones that make it noisier or stop the noise are bad. If it's 2SC1318, replace with KSC2383 from Digikey.
 
There are lots of bad transistors in there. I would replace all the small amp and preamp transistors. Do the phono transistors too.
 
Is this the c1318 your talking about? Why should I replace them with another part number? I'm not that very knowledgable about transistors.

Old transistors go bad, they make crackle and worse. Replace them. You'll need:

Amp:

Sorry, what trying to say is why dont I replace the c1318s with c1318s. Is there some advantage to using 2383s instead? Just trying to get some transistor knowledge. Thank you for the list.

These transistors have been discontinued for decades and anything available is either fake or very old or possibly both. Modern transistors are better and it's a good idea to use them here. These replacements have been vetted by Audiokarma members and are good.

Yes, that's the one. East Point's advice is good, but since it makes the noise with the volume turned down, the problem is in the power amp for now. Deal with that, get it working and then replace the other transistors for reliability.
 
Thanks for the explanation. I didnt know transistors go bad like capacitors. I will probably get them from digikey. Do the transistor kits usually have the common ones used in vintage adio gear?

Don't use kits, the suppliers have not been vetted and you don't know where the parts come from.
 
AK'er Eastpoint's kits are vetted and trustworthy. Plus even our replacements are being dropped (sales not million quantity) and when his stocks
are eventually depleted that's it... Some of the needed voltage ratings will no longer be available even in SMD packages that can be adapted into thru-hole pc boards.
 
I am ordering from Digi-key. How do I get matched pairs? What do all the suffixes on the part numbers mean?

If you are ordering bulk/random pieces from a supplier such as DigiKey or Mouser, you will have to order sufficient spares to measure and select "matched" devices for your applications.
 
Thanks for the explanation. Now I have to learn how to measure transistors. Good to increase electrical knowledge.
 
I got the transistors and decided to listen to the receiver before I install them so I can hear the change. However, the receiver is not making the noise now. I let it run 12 hours and still no noise. When I turned it off I did hear noise for about 5 seconds. I was monitoring it through ear buds.
Is this telling me there is still a problem with the transistors? Will connecting speakers push the transistors more than the ear buds?

I spoke too soon. I turned it on this morning and the static noise was back on the right channel.
Why would the noise come and go?
