Pioneer SX-5530 volume control

I have a Pioneer SX-5530 I am working on and some of the shafts for the knobs were bent. The volume control pot is missing. Does anyone know what I can use to replace this? The number is ALPS ACV-179-0. I looked online and there are some available with the number ACV-179-A from a SX-650 and SX-750 but they are not the same. The mounting ground that is soldered to the board is on the opposite side. Does anyone own one of these SX-5530 units that can take a picture of the actual volume pot in the SX-5530 so I can see if I am correct?

NOTE: This is a 5560 NOT a 5530 as brought to my attention from larryderouin member. Thanks larry.

you can find the ACV-179 in an SX-750 & an SX-650. There are a few also on Ebay.

The 5530 is the black face sx-535. Find a SX-535 parts unit and you've all the parts you'll need.

If your Volume pot is missing, WHERE did you get the part # from. The SX-5530 is a SX-535, with a Black anodized front and a multiple voltage transformer. Everything else inside should be identical to the 5530. The SX-636 also uses the ACV-139.

One more thing. The ACV-179 is a 100K pot. The ACV-139 for the 535 is 250K. Putting the 100K pot in will give you an accelerated response that could be unacceptable if it'll fit. I'm getting these values right off the SX-535 and SX650 & 750 schematics and parts lists, plus search engine on parts.pioneerelectronics.com

A little History on the Black Faces in the attahed pdf. Would you take a picture of the FRONT and the BACK of your unit, to for us to visually discern which model this is. It's not that I disagree with you on what model you have, but the 50 series had the SX5560 which is SX-750 in Black face. THAT would account for the ACV-179 POT.

The brochure is one of the only brochures for the black faces I've ever seen. This correlates with DOC's statement in the article he wrote. They are very rare and almost no literature exists for them.

You are right. I apologize. It is a 5560! That is what you call getting old. Damnit. There is the end cap that I have from the volume control and it is in the units parts. It reads 100KΩB1X2 ACV-170-0 71B.

Ok. Now that we have that all cleared up, go with the SX-650 or 750. The pot will have a total of 6 pins on one side (board side) and a total of 2 pins on the opposite side (for the Loudness tap). Check with Danny @ Y'day's Audio (see sponsor list at bottom of the page). He may have a better one than what you'd get off E-Prey.

Thanks. Sorry for all the confusion. I appreciate your help!!:thmbsp:

No problem. Sometimes it helps to post a picture of the unit in question along with the explanation. A lot of the stuff is just basic research, and some experience. Mine is basically the x3x series, although there are some gaps and open holes there. But knowing where the info is too helps. One of the largest repositories of PIONEER manuals, information, etc. is here. If it's from the late 60's to the Early 80's, generally it's here.

the Database at the top of the Forum is also a good reference point.

PIONEER PARTS is here...... http://parts.pioneerelectronics.com
Plug in the part number or the model number and it will give you (about 90% of the time) all the units a particular part was used in. Between this and the parts lists on the Service Manuals you should be able to cross reference at least 95-99% of parts. Then search on Ebay, CL, or the various vendors listed below. I'm not affiliated with Y'day's audio, but I am a very satisified repeat customer. I usually have the parts no later than 48 hours after I've ordered and paid for them (New York state to Maryland ain't that far), so any further than that and your time will vary. And that's with USPS Priority shipping or 1st class in some cases.

Good luck with it. The 750 is a pretty good unit, even tho I'm not particularly fond of the x50 or x80 series. So the 5560 should be the same. The black paint or anodize may make it sound a little darker. :D :scratch2:

One of these days I'm gonna find a 5530, 7730, or a 9930 to go with my 737 and 939.

Thanks Larry. I put in a volume control ACV-179-A as you suggested and powered it up and it works fine. Both channels balance and it has nice sound. Just replaced the stereo lamp with a 8V 50Ma lamp and stereo lamp works now. I downloaded the manual for a Pioneer SX-750 for future reference. Now I just need to put it all back together after I run some voltage checks and adjustments. :music: Neat little receiver.
