Hello i am new on here i hope i am posting this where everyone can see ? I have a Pioneer SX-5590 , and it has been working fine for the last good 30 years . I have it in the garage and it got really damp in there , well i didnt notice it at first and turned the stereo on , then a click and it went off ! Now when i power it up it will play for like 20 mins. half hour and click and wont play again . What i was wondering is if the soft start relay might have went bad from the moisture ?? Any help on this will be greatly appreiciated !! Thank You Dave C. Sidney Ohio .

Welcome to Audiokarma!
That does not sound like a soft start problem, but rather like dc offset drifting or a power supply issue.
Do you have a DMM (multimeter)? Any electronics experience? Do you know how to solder and unsolder components on a pcb? Want to work on it yourself?
Make sure it is dried out before anything else!

Yes i do have a multimeter and a little electronics experience not much though thank you for the reply !! Dave C.

Do you have a Service Manual? Check the dc offset per the SM, both when it is first powered on and after a few minutes. Should be under +/- 50mVdc. If the relay drops you will no longer be able to read dc offset from the speaker terminals, you will then have to open it up.

Ok now after a DC offset check checked out at .000 on both channels < , i hooked a different set o speakers up other than my Cerwin Vega DX9's that could have been the problem all along !! Glad Stereos Good , but now worried bout my Cerwins !! Great new problem thank you for all your help !!!
