Hello AudioKarma folks! First post on this forum—I've joined because I'm repairing my folks' old SX-636. I have the loud static at all volumes in one channel (left), and I figured while I'm ordering parts and opening the thing up I'd make it a project and do the whole list of replacement caps and transistors outlined by markthefixer, on top of the recommended few transistors for this problem. I hope this leads me to other fun projects, aided by this apparently very knowledgeable and helpful community!
I've found, as multiple others in this thread have, that the 667-ECQ-E1474KF and 598-DSF050J334 caps are now obsolete.
A newer issue: the 647-UKL1H010KDDANA recommended for awk-035 c5 and awk-035 c6 (af amp) appears to only be available in bulk, making it not worth the purchase cost.
Does anyone here who's replaced any of those with updated parts have known, good recommendations? I'm fine matching specs and size myself for available parts on Mouser, as suggested previously, but thought I'd check in here anyways for my and future novice forum-browsers' aid, in case anyone ran into unexpected trouble.
About me: I'm new to working on vintage gear, but I've been messing around with designing and wiring my own electronic/computer music tools for a number of years, feel solid with my soldering (I have a decent temp-controlled iron), and I recently gained confidence completing mods to my Blues Jr (tube) guitar amp with great success. So I do feel up to this project, given it happens to be a unit I already have!
If I'm posting in the wrong spot or breaking any rules, please let me know. This seemed, among all the threads I've read, to have the definitive post/list of recap/retransistor recommendations for the 636, and the convention seems to indicate I should not start a new thread. Happy to pay any knowledge forward once I'm done with this—I've been penciling in replacement parts in my newly printed service manual so I have a good reference. Thanks!!
